Wido Island is 40 minutes away from Gyeokpo by passenger ship. Originally it was attached to Buan-gun but in 1896(the 33rd year of King Gojong) it came to be belonging to Yeonggwang-gun. Now, it was incorporated into a Buan-gun again in 1963.
As the center of Chilsaneogang that is one of the three best fishing grounds, Wido Island is Yeonggwang Dried Yellow Corvina producing place.
Wido Island is constituted of Jin-ri, Dae-ri, Sikdo, Chido, Georyundo and Wangdeungdo.
- Wido beach: Wido beach is located in Beolgeum, Wido-myeon. This beach has over than 1km fine sandy plain, white gem like clean water, dull-sloped beach and not deep water and so numerous summer visitors come here.
- Wido Ttibaetnori Play: Wido Ttibaetnori (Ttibaet: ship coiling rope made of cloth, Nori: play) is held in Dae-ri, Wodo. From old time, on Jan 3rd of the lunar calendar, village peoples have been holding general religious service for praying peach of village and big catch of fish by launching village’s misfortune. 1) Bus for Gyeokpo/Intercity bus for Gyeokpo at Jeonju intercity bus terminal, 9times a day (2hour required), intercity bus for Gyeokpo at Buan intercity bus terminal, 10minutes intervals, 40minutes required
2) Gyeokpo→Wido / the Wido Ferry and Singwang Ferry: 07:30~17:50, 2hrs intervals, 40mins reqired It is Possible to load vehicle.
3) Transportation/ Wido city buses are waiting by at the time of ship arrival.
◦ Road Information: 1) Buan I.C of Seohaean Expressway (National road No.30) →Buan→Byeonsan Baech→Gyeokpo Harbor
2) Julpo I.C of Seohaean Expressway →Yeongjeon(National road No.30)→left turn→Gomso→ Gyeokpo Harbor
3) Taein I.C of Honam Expressway(National road No.30)→Buan→Gyeokpo Harbor
-Train: Seoul Station-Gimje Station (3hour and 20minutes) - Buan - Byeonsan, Gwangju Station-Jeongeup Station (or Gimje Station)- Buan–Byeonsan
◦ Express bus service: Dong Seoul Express Bus Terminal-Buan (4hrs)– Byeonsan , Gangnam Express Bus Terminal-Buan (3hrs 30mins)- Byeonsan
