Songgwangsa temple

  According to the stone monument which is memorial of its opening, Songkwangsa was built by priest Eunghoseungmyeong, Unjeang, Deokrim, Deukjeong, and Hongsin to attain the wishes of Zen master, Bojo It took about 14 years to complete this temple.
Zen master Bojo, the founder of Jogye order in Korea was seeking the site for a new temple, coming to the southern part of the country, Mt Jongnam he found yongcheon su (spiritual water) and put a mark on that. After that he went to Suncheon in Jeonnam province and built Songkwangsa there, and ordered his pupils to built a new temple in Mt. Jongnam. But his pupils didn't just do that, they started to built a temple after two years later of his death, and went on building it for 14years, it was completed in 1636(the 14th year of Injo). This building that the sign,”Jongnamsan Songgwongsa” is hung on its two columus and supporting pillars, have Matbae roof.
It has a style of the middle years of Joseon dynasty, which is well balanced and neat.
Passing the Iljumun gate, the menacing looking guardian deities. Sacheonwang guard the temple.
Daeyungjeon located in the middle of Songgkwangsa was built in 1857(the 8th year of Cheoljong) by the Zen priest Jebong, and appointed as a provincial tangible prosperity No.70. It has 5kan in its front, 3kan in its side, and Dapo-8jak roof according to the style of the later years of Joseon dynasty. On the ceiling and wall, about 20 piece of paintings which is presumed as works of 19centry and sketched a dancing woman are painted. And there is a painting of ten Gods behind the wooden statue of seated Budda(Provincial property No.41) Sibjagak near the Daewungjeon has another name 'Bumjonggak', which is a two-storied pavilion with 12pillars. It was appointed as a provincial cultural prosperity No.3 there is a bronze bell that was made in 1716 and mended in 1976. In other hand Going about 100m to the East from entrance of Song gwangsa Temple, there are pagodas piled up with stones where the dead priests of Songgkwangsa temple lie buried.
Climbing the mountain through the forest and fantastic rocks it reaches the summit of Mt. Jongnamsan. From here go down to the western Ilim village, Soyang myeon and you can find the forest-management office of Jeonju paper company on the way, its mineral water has the reputation of great water. And on the way to the Ganjungri, Yongjin myeon from the summit, you can meet with the Bongcheosa temple where remains archivement of Zen priest Jinmuk, the most respectable person of the years of Joseon Dynasty. Zen priest Jinmuk was possible to memorize 'Palmandaejanggyeong' (the Tripi taka koreana consisted over eighty thousand blocks) He lived in Bongahosa temple, which was established in 727, and rebuilt in years of king Gong min (the 31th king of Goryeo), But it was bunt down to perfection during the Korean war, and rebuilt in 1963 and 1975. Nowadays there remains Paewungjeon, Sansingak, Yosa, and so on.
Open time is from sunrise to sunset all year round, good time for viewing is late April when the cherry blossoms of entrance are full bloom. It can accept 4~5thousand people at once, and pure bean-curd of Hwashim, home-raised chicken boiled in plain water is delicious here.

  ◦ Field Transportation: * Jeonju→ Songgwangsa, Oseong-ri, Hak-dong, Danji-dong (City bus service is in frequency), Jeongju→Moraenae bus stop in Inhu-dong (it is base rate from Jeonju station by taxi)
* Moraenae→Songgwangsa (5:50a.m ~ 9:50p.m), 49times a day. Take a bus for Songgwangsa Temple in Daeheung-ri, Soyang-myeon
* Dueok Sanghoe→ Jeonju Station (6:40 a.m~ 9 p.m), take a seat bus No.40-1 at 40minutes intervals
◦ Road Information: Jeonju(National road No.26) → Soyang → Songgwangsa temple
◦ Express bus: Seoul→ Jeonju public use terminal(6:00 a.m~10:30p.m), take a express bus for Jeonju in at 1hour intervals
◦ Train: Seoul→ Jeonju station (6:35 a.m~11:50p.m) 15times a day
