Beat of 'Pansori'
In 'pansori' are applied seven beats, Jinyang, Jungmori, jungjungmori, jajinmori, hwimori, eotmori, and eotjungmori.
A beat is accompanied by a drum called soribuk or gojangbuk. The striking points of soribuk are divided into hapgung point(*hap, gung), bangak point(*da, dak), maehwa point(darrak, dak), ongak point or daegak point(*cheok), chaegung point(dang, da), duitgung point(*gung, *gu). The mark, *, means the vocal sound. It is classified, in a general, into hapgung point, ongak point, and duitgung point, which divided into human, heaven, and land, or medium, plus, and minus.
The principle of beat in 'pansori' is based on plus and minus principle. The beat of 'pansori' should begin from medium, develop with plus, and close with minus. The principles of starting developing, deciding, and enclosing are applied in order. Developing inserted between starting and deciding includes various events and all of the things in the universe. This is likened to be a cycle of four seasons, spring, summer, autumn, and winter. In fact, the principle of 'pansori' beat is not different from that of universe.
The persons, who, though they are not a real celebrated singer, can listen to sori discriminating it, are called celebrated listener. The person who, though not a drummer, can strike a drum discriminating beat with singer's sound and assist singers with byeonchae melody and chuimsae is called hanryang drummers. Hanryang drummers, though an amateur, can meet with expert singers across the drum without difficulty.
