It is Historic Site
No.295. The Donghak Farmers' Army defeated the official
army here in May 1894 and celebrated the victory.
There are a monumental
tower of Gabo-Donghak
Revolution and a monumental hall of Hwangtohyeon Battle
field in this area. It is known as a traveler's road and
there is no end line of tourists in groups.
Mt.Naejangsan is famous
for its beautiful maples spread in Jeongeup, Sunchang
and Jangseonggun in Jeollanamdo. Nine peaks of the
mountain are look like a horse's hoof with the main
peak of Shinseonbong jut out. Mt.Naejangsan is beautiful
in spring with flowers, in summer with the shade
of trees, in fall with the maples and in winter
with the snow-covered scene. Yeongeunjosa made the
foundation of Yeongeunsa temple, the former one
of Naejangsa. Later the great priest Heuimukdaesa
renamed it as
Naejangsa. It suffered several fires and was destroyed
during Korean War. There are Yijodongjong(a bronze bell
of Joseon(Chosun))-Tangible Cultural Asset No.49- and
the site of Yeongeunsaji here.
It was built to commemorate
the great scholar, Choi Chiwon of Shilla locating
at the foot of Mt.Wolbongsan. Goun did many great
achievements when he was a governor of Taesan(Taein).
King Sukjong donated a name as a memorial hall of
Museong in 1696(king Sukjong 22nd year). Scholars
of Shin Jam,
Jeong Geukin, Song Serim, Jeong Eonchung, Kim Yakmuk and
Kim Gwan are enshrined here. There is a literature monument
of <Sangchungok> at the entrance of the village.
Historic Site No.293.
It was built in 1878(king Gojong 15th year)and general
Jeon Bongjun who led the Donghak Farmers' Revolution
lived
there. The governor
Lee Yongtae at that time burned all the houses of Donghak
believers but this house survived the burning and later
was reconstructed in 1974.
-Major Folk Material
No.26: It is the house with 99 rooms built by Kim
Myeonggwan- 6 times related forefather of Kim Dongsu-
after 10 years of construction, which shows that
it is the typical house of high society. It maintains
its original style and experts of architecture are
much interested
in
it. It is an important referential material in studying
the ways of life of the noblemen in Joseon(Chosun) period.
The structures are disposed elaborately, which is very
unique and rare.
